Hyderabad: An elderly woman publicly confronted Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and Congress candidate V Naveen Yadav over the Congress government’s failure to deliver on its election promises, leaving the Minister and the candidate visibly embarrassed.
The incident occurred during the Minister’s campaign in Erragadda division under Jubilee Hills constituency on Thursday, when the woman raised pointed questions one after another about unfulfilled assurances.
“What did Revanth Reddy promise to the people? Did he not promise a monthly pension of Rs 4,000?” she asked the Minister, drawing the attention of the crowd.
The resident, who lives near the Old Meter Factory, questioned the Minister on several issues. As she continued, the Minister attempted to pacify her, trying to steer the conversation away from the uncomfortable queries.
In a video of the exchange, now viral on social media, the woman is heard saying, “I do not have patience for listening. I had two questions and demanded a monthly pension of Rs.4,000 and free power. After making promises during elections, leaders never return.”
The Minister persisted, explaining that the Congress government had launched welfare measures including ration cards, LPG cylinders for Rs 500, 200 units of free power and a Rs 20,000 crore crop loan waiver for farmers.
But the woman was not convinced. “Till date, not a single rupee has been reduced below Rs 500 as claimed by your leaders,” she retorted.
She further asked why power bills were being issued to households if the government had promised free electricity. Responding, the Minister clarified, “Free power is up to 200 units. If usage exceeds the limit, households must pay. A few leaders are deliberately misleading people through social media.”
Unmoved, the woman replied, “That’s exactly why I am asking about the promises.”
Later, Naveen Yadav approached her and sought her support, saying he only wanted “one chance to serve the people”. The woman shot back, “Live happily, but serve people not just during elections.”
