Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India on Monday announced that the Jubilee Hills by-election would be held on November 11 and the counting of votes would be on November 14.
The Model Code of Conduct came into effect in the city with the announcement of the bypoll. Nominations can be filed from October 13 and the last date for filing nominations is October 21. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 24.
The by-election in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency was necessitated due to the demise of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath on June 8 this year.
The BRS has announced Maganti Sunitha, widow of Gopinath, as its candidate for the bypoll on September 26. However, the Congress and the BJP are yet to announce their candidates.
After the 2023 Assembly election, this is the second bypoll in the State after the one in Secunderabad Cantonment constituency, which was necessitated after BRS sitting MLA Lasya Nanditha died on February 24, 2024 in an accident.
The bypoll in the constituency was held in June 2024 and Congress candidate Sri Ganesh won the election with a margin of 13,206 votes over his nearest rival TN Vamsha Tilak of the BJP. BRS candidate Lasya Niveditha polled 34,462 votes.
