Hyderabad: The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Telangana on Wednesday condemned the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s statement on the Muslim community and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
The Chief Minister, according to the SIO, had said ‘Congress hai toh Musalman hai, Congress nahi toh aap kuch nahi‘ during the campaign for Jubilee Hill bypoll on Tuesday.
Such a remark was not only politically irresponsible but also a direct affront to the self-respect and dignity of the entire Muslim community, the SIO said in a press release.
“This statement exposes a feudal and vote-bank mindset, and also reflects the erosion of democratic and moral values when a Chief Minister claims monopoly over the identity of an entire community, ” it said.
The student organisation also demanded that the Chief Minister issue a public apology for a statement that attempts to undermine constitutional equality.
The SIO urged the Election Commission of India to take serious cognisance of such “inflammatory and undemocratic” remarks, which violate the spirit of free and fair elections.
