Keshav Maharaj says South Africa’s bowling variety key to WTC final success
Keshav Maharaj believes South Africa’s well-rounded bowling attack — combining pace, height, swing, and control — gives them an edge in the WTC final against Australia. He also praised Test cricket’s intensity and the role of character in high-pressure moments.

Hyderabad: South African spinner Keshav Maharaj said the variety in their bowling attack would really complement each other as they got height, pace, swing and aggression when they take on Australia in the World Test Championship final starting from today (June 11) at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
“And, we still maintain control. It’s probably one of the most balanced attacks we’ve had in a long time. After the greats moved on, we went through a transition to find the right combination, and I believe we’ve now found a crucial element in our team’s success,” he said in a chat with JioStar and Star Sports network “The variety has been key — and if you look at how the cycle has played out, it’s been a collective effort from our bowlers. That shows how important variety is, especially across different conditions,” he said.
“I think Test cricket is a true test of both skill and character. You’ve got to be relentless for five days. You might win one day, but it’s the next four that truly matter — you can’t take your foot off the gas. When you win a Test match or series, you’re left physically, mentally, and emotionally drained because you’ve given everything,” Maharaj said.
“The game may seem slow in pace, but the intensity is unmatched. It’s a complete test, and in pressure moments, that’s when character really shines through — and that’s what makes Test cricket so special,” he said.
