KGBV student hospitalised after snake bite; Gurukul students stage protest over poor amenities
A Class IX student was hospitalised after a snakebite at a KGBV school in Jogulamba Gadwal, while students from another Gurukul staged a protest over unsafe drinking water, broken toilets, and government apathy despite repeated pleas for action.
Gadwal: A Class IX student of Kasturba Gandhi Girls High School (KGBV) in Kalagotla village of Jogulamba Gadwal district was hospitalised after being bitten by a snake on the school premises on Wednesday morning.
The student, identified as Dakshayini, raised an alarm and alerted her classmates immediately after the incident. She was shifted to Kurnool Government Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, nearly 40 students from Mahatma Gandhi Jyothirao Phule Gurukul School launched a protest march demanding urgent resolution of long-pending issues and lack of basic amenities on their campus.
The students walked from Pulluru village in Undavalli mandal to Alampur crossroads, and continued towards the District Collector’s office along National Highway 44.
They raised concerns about the alarming conditions in their school, pointing out that toilets were in disrepair and the borewell water contained fluoride, making it unsafe to drink. Despite repeated pleas since last year for supply of safe Mission Bhagiratha water, officials had failed to respond, the students said.
