Khammam: The inability to supply adequate urea to farmers in Telangana was a testament to the incompetence of the Congress government, alleged former Zilla Parishad chairman Lingala Kamal Raju.
He said during the rule of K Chandrashekhar Rao farmers never faced any shortage of urea and even had it delivered to their homes by auto-rickshaws. But under Congress rule, farmers were forced to stand in long queues, even placing their slippers in line, just to get enough fertilizers in vanakalam season and the same situation was prevailing in yasangi season.
Kamal Raju, along with farmers and BRS cadres, staged a protest at Chintakani tahsildar’s office in Madhira constituency in the district on Tuesday demanding supply of sufficient urea to the farmers. They submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar.
Speaking on the occasion, he appealed to the authorities to respond immediately and supply urea to farmers without any shortage. Despite the Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao’s claims that there were enough stocks of urea, farmers were unable to get it, he said.
The BRS leaders Boddu Venkata Rama Rao, Gurajala Hanumantha Rao, farmer leaders Mankena Ramesh, Gaddam Srinu, Vemula Narasaiah, Ponugothati Ratnakar, Bandi Rama Rao and others were present.
