Khammam: Khammam One Town police cracked the murder of a woman, Modam Prameela, who was found killed on a street in Kasba Bazaar on the night of January 9, and arrested two persons in connection with the crime.
According to Khammam City ACP S V Ramana Murthy, during vehicle checks at the Tata Showroom area on Monday, two men attempted to flee on seeing the police. They were chased, apprehended and identified as Bomma Shravan Kumar of Chakali Bazaar in Paloncha town and Gadidasi Rajesh of Ramavaram in Kothagudem. During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to having murdered Prameela.
Prameela and her husband Narasimha Rao had been living in a rented house owned by Shravan at Paloncha. The couple later separated due to disputes, following which Prameela moved to Bhadrachalam and began working at a textiles shop. She had helped Shravan secure a loan of Rs. 1 lakh from her colleague Krishna in 2025, but Shravan failed to repay the amount despite her repeated requests, leading to friction and alleged harassment.
Prameela later left Bhadrachalam without Shravan’s knowledge, came to Khammam to work in a local garment showroom and took up residence at Medara Bazaar. Shravan traced her address and allegedly began harassing her again.
Police said Shravan then plotted to murder Prameela as she was not speaking to him and was getting closer to her husband again. He sought the help of his brother-in-law Rajesh. To execute the plan, the duo arrived in Khammam on January 9 carrying a large knife used for cutting trees and attacked Prameela while she was returning home from work, killing her on the spot.
To prevent identification, Shravan allegedly took her identity card and smartwatch while fleeing, packed their blood-stained clothes, the knife and Prameela’s belongings into a bag and hid it in bushes along the way.
ACP Ramana Murthy appreciated Khammam One Town CI Karunakar, SIs Ramakrishna and Anil, and constables Hussain and Ghouse Pasha for solving the case.
