Khammam: Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) council unanimously approved an annual budget of Rs 320.98 crore for the financial year 2022-23.
Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar who attended the budget meeting here on Thursday asked the council and municipal officials to make efforts to increase the corporation’s revenues. Need based works have to be executed to win over the hearts of the citizens, he noted.
The minister said soon the newly constructed KMC building would be inaugurated. The elected members and officials should be prepared to work from the new office premises with innovative ideas to serve the needs of the residents.
The KMC has gained a special place in the State with transparent administration and development works. Khammam city stands as a testimony for the development that could be achieved with the support from the State government.
Elected members should shoulder the responsibility of providing basic infrastructure facilities for the residents. Focus should be laid on improving the drainage system in the city. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic development works were carried out in the city, Ajay Kumar noted.As part of Gollapadu channel modernisation a 11 km underground drainage system was being developed. For treating sewer water a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was being constructed with an expenditure of Rs 30 crore, he informed.
The government was providing a funding of Rs 2.70 crore every month to the KMC under Pattana Pragathi. As many as 75, 000 households in the city were being supplied safe drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha, the minister revealed.
Mayor P Neeraja informed that the KMC expects to earn a revenue of Rs 29.37 crore from property tax, Rs 5.02 crore from stamp duty, Rs 13.31 crore rents, Rs 19.20 crore from Town Planning wing and Rs 2.17 core from engineering wing.District Collector VP Gautham informed that the budget was prepared following the guidelines prescribed in the Telangana Municipalities Act 2019 by incorporating a green budget while Municipal Commissioner Adarsh Surabhi said measures were taken to increase revenues.
