Kothagudem: Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju stated stringent action would be taken against those involved in the illegal transportation of cattle.

The police department in coordination with officials from other departments has been taking measures to curb illegal cattle transport. Police officials were directed to monitor cattle markets in their jurisdiction in the wake of the Bakrid (Eid-al Adha) festival.

In order to curb cattle transport from other States and districts, two inter-State check-posts and three inter-district check-posts have been established, with 24/7 surveillance at the five locations, SP Rohith Raju informed in a statement here on Tuesday.

He clarified that the illegal transportation and slaughter of cows and calves anywhere in the district was strictly prohibited under the law and severe legal action would be initiated against anyone found engaging in such activities.

At every check post, police personnel along with staff from the animal husbandry department would conduct inspections of vehicles and there would be no compromise in taking strict action against those transporting cattle without valid documentation.

In an effort to curb illegal cattle transport, no one should take the law into their own hands. The district police media-monitoring cell would monitor social media to prevent the spread of provocative content that could incite communal hatred, the SP said.
