Hyderabad: Charging the Congress government with pushing Telangana backwards, BRS working president KT Rama Rao called upon party leaders and workers to prepare for a renewed people’s movement to protect the State’s interests. He said the State had now fallen into the hands of miscreants and accused the Congress government of reversing the gains made during the decade-long BRS rule.

Participating in Telangana State Formation Day celebrations at Telangana Bhavan, Rama Rao paid tributes to Telangana martyrs, garlanded the statues of Telangana Talli and Prof K Jayashankar, and unfurled the National Flag. On the occasion, he felicitated Telangana folk artists in the presence of party leaders who attended the event in large numbers.

Addressing the gathering, the BRS working president said Telangana was achieved after a 14-year struggle under the leadership of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao. He recalled the unwavering struggle of participants and the sacrifices of martyrs. “It was KCR who united people and rallied them for separate statehood. He had even bet his life by launching his fast-unto-death with the slogan of ‘Telangana Vacchudo, KCR Sacchudo’,” he said.

He termed the former Chief Minister as the leader who transformed Telangana through irrigation, welfare and development initiatives after the formation of the State.

Rama Rao stated that despite making numerous promises, the Congress government had failed to deliver on key commitments. He criticised the government for allegedly skipping the disbursal of Rythu Bharosa financial assistance to farmers for four seasons, leaving them to fend for themselves without funds, fertilisers, irrigation and even crop procurement. “In 30 months of Congress rule, farmers are being deprived of Rythu Bharosa and pushed into crisis. However, funds are being diverted into the accounts of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders,” he remarked.

He pointed out that the government had failed to implement the Pay Revision Commission for government employees despite promising to do so within six months of assuming office. Raising concerns over the declining law and order situation in the State, he said investors were being driven away due to the corrupt practices of the Congress government.

The BRS leader said farmers, unemployed youth, government employees and pensioners were increasingly dissatisfied with the government’s anti-people policies. He accused the Congress of coming to power through false promises and then utterly failing to address issues relating to agriculture, employment and industrial growth, leave alone implementing its electoral promises.

Stating that Telangana had become a protest ground, he remarked that every section of society was agitating against the government. He also criticised the Congress leadership over employment generation, farmer welfare and the handling of irrigation projects. He questioned the silence of Rahul Gandhi on government jobs and dared Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to come to Ashok Nagar without security, where scores of youth were awaiting job notifications.

Rama Rao reiterated that the BRS was not fighting for power but for Telangana’s future. He affirmed that the party would continue to raise public issues and protect the State’s identity. “The BRS will continue to fight alone for the people of Telangana, notwithstanding the suppressive and regressive politics of the Congress,” he vowed. He accused the Congress of attempting to neglect Telangana’s self-respect and warned that the gains achieved after State formation were under threat.

On the occasion, Rama Rao administered a pledge to party leaders and workers, calling upon them to rededicate themselves to safeguarding Telangana’s identity, protecting the interests of its people and carrying forward the ideals of the Telangana movement under Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership. He urged them to intensify their fight alongside Chandrashekhar Rao to protect the people of Telangana.

The celebrations witnessed the participation of senior BRS leaders, elected representatives and party cadres from across the State.
