Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao came to the rescue of beleaguered Covid patients in various parts of Telangana State on Sunday when he directed District Collectors and local MLAs to act against hospitals that were collecting exorbitant charges from Covid patients.

Actor Nikhil Siddhartha tweeted: “Alankar Hospital, Warangal, patient on the way to Hospital. They said Rs.1 lakh for first day and Rs.75,000 per day for remaining days.” The actor also shared the patient’s attendant’s details and contact number. He further tweeted”Is this fair? Requesting KTRTRS anna office to look into this.”

Responding immediately, the Minister tweeted: “We will have Warangal Collector to act on this.”

A similar complaint was raised by Ranvitha Reddy from Mahabubnagar. In a tweet, she shared the images of bills including advance paid to Panchavati Hospital and said: “Still they have to pay Rs.6 lakh and just he is on Oxygen, they are charging this much. Please show your concern and do the needful sir.”

Again, Rama Rao was swift in responding, and immediately directed Tourism Minister and local MLA V Srinivas Goud and the District to intervene and help the distressed Covid patient and family.

It was not merely complaints against exorbitant charges by hospitals, the Minister also responded to complaints about atrocities against migrant workers.

Sharing images of injuries suffered by workers, Naveen Kumar, in a tweet tagging the Minister, said: “35 Orissa migrant workers at a brick kiln near Jukal, Shamshabad, Ranga Reddy district were severely beaten by their owner Reddyanayak without paying wages for eight months (Rs.5 lakh). Migrants are distressed and worried that they might be killed by the owner.”

The Minister immediately responded with a tweet stating: “Please send me their contact details, so that we can have the local police file cases and recover wages.” He also directed his office to coordinate with the local administration.

Meanwhile, patients’ attendants from neighbouring States continue to seek Rama Rao’s help for oxygen and other necessities.

Prasad Akula from Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh tweeted: “Please do arrange some oxygen cylinders here, situation is very bad here, help us. Donate 12 litres of Oxygen.”

The Minister immediately appealed to his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh Mekapati Goutham to assist.
