Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao charged the Congress government with criminal negligence in addressing the State’s irrigation needs, especially the failure to lift water through the Kaleshwaram project.
He lashed out at the ruling party’s inability to address the prevailing drought-like conditions and canal water scarcity across Telangana.
Pointing to the sharp contrast between the BRS and Congress regimes, Rama Rao said agriculture, which flourished under 10 years of BRS rule, is once again in distress. “During the BRS rule, the Kaleshwaram project waters reached fields even in distant areas such as Penpahad mandal of Suryapet district. Now, instead of water, only farmers’ tears are flowing,” he said.
The BRS working president said the government’s refusal to repair the Medigadda barrage and failure to activate pumps from Kannepalli was a deliberate move. “Despite the possibility to lift and supply water, the Congress government remains indifferent,” he charged.
Terming the Congress as hostile to agriculture, he warned that the BRS will expose its conspiracies and continue its fight to protect Telangana farmers.
In a separate post on X, Rama Rao ridiculed the Congress leadership and criticised Revanth Reddy for pushing women back to the era wherein women carried buckets and pots to water standing paddy crop in Jagitial district. He said the Revanth Reddy government has reversed the progress made under the BRS rule.
Pointing to the failure to repair a broken transformer in Rangadhamunipalli of Jagitial district even after 15 days, the former Minister asked if the government has been unable to fix a transformer to restore power supply, how can it repair Medigadda barrage’s collapsed piers that have remained untouched for over a year.
He slammed the government for letting farmlands dry up due to the lack of irrigation and blamed the Congress regime for denying farmers the use of enhanced groundwater resources achieved during the BRS rule. “Women and children are now struggling for every drop, by carrying empty pots and buckets for drinking water. Does the Chief Minister not see their suffering?” he asked.
