KTR to participate in “Bachao Secunderabad” rally on Saturday
BRS working president KT Rama Rao will lead the ‘Bachao Secunderabad’ rally on Saturday to protest the Congress government’s alleged attempts to erase the city’s identity. Former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav accused the government of unilateral decisions threatening Secunderabad’s heritage.
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao along with the party elected representatives and leaders, will participate in the “Bachao Secunderabad” rally to be taken out from Secunderabad railway station to Mahatma Gandhi statue on MG Road. The rally which will commence at 9 am, also will be attended by members of civil organisations, NGOs, residential welfare and traders associations.
Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the rally was being taken out opposing the Congress government’s attempts to erase the name and identity of Secunderabad, which has over 220 years of history and cultural heritage. He said a conspiracy was underway to rename the area by shifting major government offices and merging the city with municipal corporations and police commissionerates named after the peripheral areas. He cited the shifting of the North Zone commissioner’s office from Secunderabad to Malkajgiri as part of this conspiracy.
“The recent mergers of police commissionerates was done illegally without public consultation. We will not tolerate such unilateral decisions threatening our self-respect and identity,” he asserted. He urged people from every household in Secunderabad to participate in the massive rally to be held on Saturday for their self-respect and identity. “This is the right time to build pressure on the government,” he added.
The Sanathnagar MLA accused the Congress of running a Tughlaq-like administration. He said the Congress which came to power with over 420 promises, had failed to implement them and hence, attempting to divert people’s attention by resorting to such reckless decisions. He said the cultural significance of Secunderabad, including historic landmarks and festivals like Lashkar Bonalu, must be preserved.
He appealed to community organisations and all political parties to join the protest, calling it a peaceful rally. He declared that if the police deny permission for their rally, they will approach the High Court for necessary action.
