Hyderabad: Coming down heavily on certain mainstream media houses for what he called biased coverage of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) activities, party working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday said some outlets were turning into “slaughterhouses indulging in character assassination.”
Addressing the BRS student wing (BRSV) State conference, KTR urged party activists, especially from BRSV and the youth wing, to actively use social media to counter prejudiced media narratives.
Pointing to the media cameras present at the event, he remarked: “Don’t expect fair coverage from them.” Instead, he advised supporters to share photos and videos online to showcase the truth.
Reaffirming BRS’s commitment to protecting Telangana’s interests, KTR encouraged activists to draw inspiration from BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and work relentlessly for the State’s rights.
He assured BRSV activists that the party and its legal cell would stand by them, advising them not to surrender their mobile phones to police under any circumstances. Referring to alleged police excesses, including the case of BRSV leader Gellu Srinivas, he claimed that Srinivas’s wife was booked under an attempt-to-murder case for refusing to hand over her phone during a raid.
Accusing the police of acting under Congress influence, KTR warned that political power is temporary. “The Congress has only three years left, and the last year will be an election year, making it inconsequential,” he said.
He called on activists to play an active role in the upcoming local body elections and announced that BRSV would soon have new leadership, with active members and women being given greater opportunities. Existing leaders would be promoted to key roles within the party.
