Mancherial: Women from the 11th ward of Chennur municipality staged a protest on Thursday, carrying empty vessels and raising slogans against the civic body for failing to address the acute shortage of drinking water in their area.
The women said they had been struggling for the past 20 days due to a defunct electric motor in a borewell, which had stopped supplying water. As a result, they were forced to spend Rs 2,000 daily to purchase two tankers of water.
“We cannot continue to buy water every day. It is becoming unbearable,” said one of the protestors.
They accused municipal officials of showing negligence despite repeated appeals. They also alleged that instead of resolving the crisis, the civic body booked two local residents, Suddala Prashanth and Kamatam Manohar, for approaching the municipal commissioner to highlight the issue.
The women urged the officials to take immediate action and restore drinking water supply to the ward, warning that they would intensify their protest if the issue was not resolved.
