Mancherial: A tiger killed a calf in the forests near Venkatapur village of Kasipet mandal on Tuesday, sparking panic among residents who fear for their safety and that of their livestock.
According to locals, the calf belonged to Budde Rajalingu of Venkatapur and was attacked while grazing near the forest edge.
Villagers have urged Forest Department officials to take immediate steps to prevent further loss of cattle or potential harm to humans. They said the tiger’s presence has left them living in constant fear.
Forest officials have confirmed the presence of the tiger, stating that pugmarks were found at the site. CCTV camera traps have been deployed to track the animal’s movement. The calf’s owner will be given compensation shortly, they said.
Officials suspect the tiger is a sub-adult male that migrated from Maharashtra and is currently moving between the border areas of Tiryani in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district and Kasipet in Mancherial.
Villagers have been advised to remain cautious, move in groups, and avoid sending cattle too deep into the forest. Forest staff urged residents to report any sightings or signs of the tiger and said awareness drives were underway to educate locals on safety measures.
This is not the first incident involving the tiger. On Sunday, it reportedly tried to attack a herd of cattle in the forests of Edulapahad village in Tiryani mandal, causing panic in the area.
