Hyderabad: Having been doing service to the homeless from the past five years, Jasper Paul of The Second Chance NGO saw the need to have a hospital of his own to be able to bring some immediate care for the needy.
Well, that thought has now finally taken shape in the form of The Second Chance Mission Hospital at Sainikpuri where Jasper and his wife Theresa along with a group of doctors and medical staff render services not only for the rescued destitutes but also the general public.

Jasper’s NGO always faced issues in ensuring health and medical care of those who found a home with his facility. “The process of admitting a home mate when they have health issues was becoming a hassle as we had to hire a caretaker every time since government hospitals do not admit a patient without a caretaker. To find a caretaker or to also juggle between hospital and home for us was getting really tough. Thus, to eliminate all that, I always had an idea of starting a hospital of our own so I can serve the needy and give them the best,” shares Jasper Paul who has been providing shelter to the homeless since 2017.
With the help of some funds generated during the pandemic and some external crowd funding, the Second Chance team managed to bring together a set of doctors who have been closely working in planning and execution of bringing the hospital into reality.
The 20-bedded facility now offers services from general health to even minor surgeries. The doctors – specialist and duty doctors will be available round the clock and the hospital also offers X-ray, ECG and several minor tests as well.
For doctors, Jasper says, working at such a service-oriented hospital is an experience of its own. “At our hospital, the doctors can get to experience different kinds of cases and also have the satisfaction of rendering some service to the needy. Also, MBBS final year students can join in to learn, earn and also serve simultaneously,” he points out.
The hospital also has retired doctors with over 45 years of experience serving at the facility, he adds.
