Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has established Aerobin composters, which convert wet waste into organic manure without using electricity, in the ‘Core Urban Region Economy’ area.
As part of implementing the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation successfully completed a pilot project in Peerzadiguda involving the installation of five Aerobin composters for wet waste processing.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the NGOs, ‘Modern Architects for Rural India’ (MARI) and ‘Swarna Latha Motherson Trust’ (SLMTT), a press release said.
The Aerobin composters are intended for urban residential settings and are designed to operate without foul odours or attracting flies and mosquitoes, while producing compost faster than conventional methods. The compact units are meant for use in gated communities, apartment complexes and by bulk waste generators, the press release said.
MMC Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy said the initiative will be implemented in at least one prominent gated community or RWA in each circle of the civic body.
Officials said that from August 1, MARI, in collaboration with MMC, will install 80 Aerobin units across 15 selected strategic locations. The locations will include 13 residential areas and one educational institution, while the Peerzadiguda pilot centre will continue as a model learning and demonstration centre.
The MMC Commissioner will officially launch the Aerobin compost harvest on July 10 at the Parvathapur Integrated Solid Waste Management Park in Peerzadiguda.
