Mukhra village in Adilabad draws appreciation from Union Ministry
Under Palle Pragathi programme, the village panchayat has taken up extensive plantation of saplings and this has aided in increasing the green cover considerably
Hyderabad: Mukhra, a small village from Adilabad is setting an example to other panchayats in increasing green cover and its efforts are being recognized at the national level.
Under Palle Pragathi programme, the village panchayat has taken up extensive plantation of saplings and this has aided in increasing the green cover considerably.This year, the panchayat planted over 25,000 saplings in different areas under its limits as part of the programme.
Sharing a video of the village, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj on Saturday, tweeted “Panchayats may sensitize the residents and make them aware about the benefits of plantation to save the shrinking green cover in rural areas. Telangana’s eco-friendly Mukhra Gram Panchayat shows the way forward to build and enhance the green landscaping”
The Mukhra village Sarpanch Gadge Meenakshi has been leading from the front in taking up different development works in the village. With a population of about 750, the village bagged the Open Defecation Free Plus village recognition. The village is equipped with a Palle Prakruthi vanam, nursery, rainwater harvesting pits in each house and other facilities.
Making good use of the tractor provided by the State government, the village panchayat prepares vermicompost through dry and wet waste collected from households. The panchayat has earned about Rs.2.50 lakh through vermicompost and Rs.60,000 through dry waste, Panchayat Raj department officials informed.
Panchayats may sensitize the residents and make them aware about the benefits of plantation to save the shrinking green cover in rural areas.
