Khammam: The sanctioning of seven Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) to Telangana is the result of continuous efforts by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), said former Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao.

The institutions are set to be established in the districts of Kothagudem, Jagtial, Mahabubnagar, Medchal, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, and Suryapet. Classes are scheduled to begin on July 14 this year, he informed.

With this addition, the total number of JNVs in Telangana has risen to 16. Nageswara Rao said the BRS had consistently demanded, during the 17th Lok Sabha, the establishment of new Navodaya Vidyalayas in line with the formation of new districts in the State.

He added that, besides raising the issue in Parliament, multiple letters had been sent to the Central government requesting the setting up of these residential schools, especially in backward districts such as Kothagudem. Telangana’s first Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, had also written to the Centre on the matter.

However, he expressed dissatisfaction that although the State requires 21 Navodaya Vidyalayas, only seven have been approved. He emphasised that Navodaya Vidyalayas provide quality, free education to talented students in rural areas and pave the way for a better future.
