Hyderabad: The Narcotics Control Bureau caught two persons who were allegedly exporting psychotropic substances to the United States. A total of 598 tablets of various types of psychotropic medicines were seized.
According to the NCB officials, on a tip-off, their team raided a courier company office located in the city and found 180 tablets of Lobazam-10 being exported to the USA.
During the investigation, the NCB officials found that the sender of the parcel was a resident of Nizamabad district and the managing partner of a prominent medical store in Nizamabad. Based on this input, a joint raid was conducted by the NCB, Hyderabad, in coordination with the Drug Control Administration (DCA) at the said medical store.
“During the operation, 598 tablets of various psychotropic medicines were seized from the medical store. The prime accused, who is the managing partner of the medical store, failed to produce mandatory prescription registers, sales records and stock details, thereby violating the statutory provisions governing the procurement, storage and sale of psychotropic substances.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of an employee of a reputed courier company, who had fabricated documents, including fake bills and forged medical prescriptions, to facilitate the illegal trafficking and export of psychotropic medicines to the USA,” said the NCB officials.
The NCB officials alleged that the medical store owner had illegally procured, stored and sold psychotropic drugs without maintaining statutory records and attempted to export such medicines to a foreign country without valid authorisation. The courier company employee actively facilitated the offence by creating fraudulent documentation, the officials added.
A case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 (as amended) has been registered against them.
Further investigation is in progress.
