Hyderabad: A staggering 17,889 candidates skipped the Civil Services 2025 preliminary examination, which was conducted in 95 centres in the city on Sunday.

A total of 43,676 candidates registered in Hyderabad, 26,032 appeared for the paper – I and 25,787 took the paper – II. This means 245 candidates skipped the paper – II after taking the paper – I, reflecting toughness of the paper.

Several candidates reported that the paper – I questions had twists and turns, framed mainly to eliminate aspirants from the race.

No questions were from question banks. Questions and options were framed in a way that there was no scope for candidates to exercise the elimination process to arrive at the correct answer, said Shashank, an aspirant who took the test in the city.

There were approximately (15) questions from Economic and Social Development, (16) History and Culture, (9) General Science, (16) Indian Polity and Governance, (13) Environment and Ecology, (14) Geography, (5) General Knowledge, and (12) Current Affairs.

This time, the paper – I had questions from all the areas. However, the number of questions on History and Culture were more as compared to the previous year. Only aspirants with a long term preparation would be rewarded, said Gopala Krishna, Director Brain Tree.

As for the paper – II candidates reported that questions were moderate to difficult on difficulty levels. They said the no question was direct and the paper was on the lines of the CAT conducted admissions to IIMs. “Students with humanities background had tough time,” said Praneeth, an aspirant.

The Union Public Service Commission is expected to release the results by June 10.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad collector Anudeep Durishetty inspected exam centres in Osmania University College of Science, Saifabad, Government Degree College, Begumpet, and OU PG College of Law, Basheerbagh.
