Hyderabad: Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind’s decision to stay away from the BJP meeting at Manneguda on Tuesday, where the new State president is to be announced, has triggered speculation within party ranks and political circles.
Posting on X, the MP stated, “Due to personal reasons, I will not attend the State party events today.”
The BJP’s State unit is meeting at a private convention centre to formally announce the new State president. Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje, who also served as the central election Returning Officer, is slated to announce the appointment of former MLC N Ramchander Rao as the new State BJP president.
Arvind was among the key contenders for the post and was reportedly prepared to file his nomination. However, the party’s central leadership directed Ramchander Rao to file his nomination resulting in a unanimous election as no other nominations were received.
The development follows discontent expressed by Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh, who resigned from the party’s primary membership in protest against the leadership’s decision. His resignation sparked a verbal spat among BJP leaders.
Arvind’s absence at Tuesday’s meeting has now further fuelled speculation about internal differences and growing unrest within the State BJP unit.
