RS Praveen Kumar slams IAS, IPS associations’ silence on Jagga Reddy’s abuse of police
BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar criticised the inaction of IAS and IPS Officers’ Associations after TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy allegedly abused and threatened police officers during Sangareddy municipal elections. Despite video evidence, no arrests have been made in 72 hours.
Hyderabad: Expressing concern over the silence of the IPS and IAS Officers’ Associations on TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy’s abusive conduct towards police officers, former civil servant and BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar wondered whether cases would have been registered at all had the State Election Commission not issued directions.
Referring to the municipal elections in the 34th ward of Sangareddy, he said the TPCC working president had abused and threatened police officers, including CCS CI Shivakumar Yadav, DSP Sathaiah Goud and home guards. Apart from abusing the officers and obstructing their duties, he even tried to storm into the building, he said in a post on X.
“It has been 72 hours and the videos are evidence of the incident. No arrests have been made so far in an incident that has shattered the morale of the police,” he said, pointing out that Jagga Reddy had not apologised yet.
Interestingly, the incident was being defended, citing the conduct of TRS activists towards the Andhra police during the separate Telangana agitation, he stated.
“The Chief Minister or Home Minister Revanth Reddy should have at least spoken to the policemen and apologised to them. The Telangana Police Officers Association has not condemned the incident. Is it fear or political pressure?” Praveen Kumar asked.
Strangely, in the past, the IAS and IPS Associations, which reacted sharply even to minor remarks made by senior BRS leaders, had issued statements and demanded action. Now, despite the Congress working president publicly insulting policemen on duty in objectionable language, there was no sign of protest or even a word, he said.
“How terrible is this double standard?” he asked, also questioning whether police unions or other employee unions had become affiliated organisations of the ruling party and why the TNGO was maintaining silence over the incident.
“The despicable actions of Jagga Reddy and Dharmapuri Arvind are an insult to the police system. They are sending a wrong message to the society,” he said, adding that if the police department remained silent to such threats and acts, there was every possibility in future of people abusing police personnel on duty and going scot-free.
“Why is the government, which is supposed to back the officers for delivering duties bravely, not paying attention to such a grave issue? Is this not a stain on the government’s reputation?” Praveen Kumar asked, stressing that this was not just a question from the BRS, but a concern of every citizen.
