Hyderabad: The National Medical Commission (NMC), which is the regulatory body for medical education in the country, has cautioned Indian students, who are exploring the possibility of pursuing MBBS courses in foreign countries, from taking admissions in such courses offered by the Universities in China, for the current and upcoming academic years.
In a notice to such students, the NMC has advised them to exercise due diligence in choosing where to pursue medical education from.
“Students need to be aware that the Government of People’s Republic of China has imposed strict travel restrictions in the wake of Covid-19 and suspended all visas since November 2020. A large number of international students including Indian students have not been able to return to China to continue their studies due to these restrictions. Thus far, there has been no relaxation in the restrictions.
Further, the Chinese authorities have conveyed earlier that MBBS courses will be conducted online. As per the rules, the NMC does not recognize or approve medical courses done only in online mode,” the notice from NMC said.
Students are also advised to refer to Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations (FMGE), 2021 before applying or planning to seek admission in any institutions in China.
The advisory from the medical education regulatory body has come in the wake of a recent development wherein several Universities from China have started issuing notices for admissions to MBBS programmes for the current and upcoming academic years.
