Numaish 2026 inaugurated; electricity issues affect several stalls
The 85th Numaish began in Hyderabad amid power issues, leaving several stalls without electricity. Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka inaugurated the exhibition, which hosts over 1,200 traders offering clothes, handicrafts, electronics, and an amusement area for children.
Hyderabad: The 85th All India Industrial Exhibition (AIIE), popularly known as Numaish, began on a sour note on Thursday as the management reportedly failed to provide power connections to several stalls. This has resulted in the traders having to commence their business without lights.
The road outside the stalls was illuminated with the help of street lights, while inside the stalls, it was total darkness. Deputy Chief Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, in presence of other government officials and exhibition society members, inaugurated the annual Numaish.
The exhibition was first started in 1938 at the Bagh e Aam (Public Gardens) and later shifted to present venue in 1948. Over the decades, the annual event has gained immense popularity and become a must-visit not only for the locals but also for those from neighbouring districts.
“We paid a substantial amount to the exhibition society for the stalls. The society failed to provide electricity connection to the stalls and in coordinating with the department concerned,” said a trader on condition of anonymity.
Around 1200 businessmen will be carrying out their trade from over 2000 temporary shops created in the sprawling Numaish grounds. Visitors can select from a wide range of goods such as readymade clothes, handicrafts, footwear, imitation jewellery, cosmetics, dry fruits, home furnishings, furniture, electronic items, etc. There is also an amusement area where children can enjoy joyrides.
