Officials gear up for school reopening in Khammam

Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar instructed the officials to keep the schools ready by August 30 by making all required arrangements for reopening them

Khammam: Education officials in erstwhile Khammam are gearing up for reopening of schools from September 1 following the State government’s recent directions.

As many as 1,93,967 students studying in 1,629 private and government schools in Khammam and 1,57,067 students studying in 1,753 private and government schools in Kothagudem district would be returning to schools.


Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar along with ZP Chairman, Lingala Kamalraj, District Collector VP Gautham held a meeting in Khammam on Wednesday with district officials to review the arrangements being made for the reopening of schools.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister instructed the officials to keep the schools ready by August 30 by making all required arrangements for reopening them. Steps have to be taken to ensure all the students attend classes.

Every classroom has to be sanitised and if there were any wild bushes or water stagnation they should be cleaned. Drinking water and toilets have to be made available to the students from day one of the reopening of schools, Ajay Kumar suggested.

In any situation, students should not be engaged in cleaning work and if any such incidents occurred in any school serious action would be initiated against the concerned officials, he warned adding that gram panchayat workers in villages and municipal workers in municipalities have to be engaged in carrying out sanitation works.

For preparing mid-day meals, food material indented in the past should not be used, only fresh food items have to be used. Care must be taken to ensure that school staff and cooks are vaccinated, the minister said.

Special care has to be taken for the security of girls at girls’ schools and hostels. Textbooks and uniforms have to be provided to the students within one week of reopening of schools, he added.

Necessary instructions have already been given to education officials to make arrangements for reopening schools and within the next five days the schools would be ready to run classes, Collector Gautham informed.

SUDA Chairman, B Vijay Kumar, Mayor P Neeraja, Municipal Commissioner, Anurag Jayanthi, Additional Collector, Snehalatha Mogili, DEO Yadaiah, DH&HO, Dr. B Malathi and others were present.

Make groceries available for mid-day meal, officials told

Nalgonda: Additional District Collector Vanamala Chandrasekhar on Wednesday instructed the officials to make arrangements for the supply of rice and groceries to schools and hostels in view of schools reopening on September 1.

Addressing a meeting with officials of education and Civil Supplies Departments in his camp office, Chandrasekhar said rice and groceries stocks should be made available in schools for mid-day meals and also for hostels by August 30. The officials should immediately prepare an indent for the supply of rice and groceries to the schools and hostels, he said.

Managers of Civil Supplies Department should make arrangements for transportation of rice to the schools and hostels from mandal-level stock points, he said, adding that there was a need to maintain sufficient stock of rice in civil supplies department godowns for the purpose.

He said that measures should be taken for the maintenance of cleanliness in the schools and hostels. District Education Officer Bixapathi, District Civil supplies Officer Venkateshwarlu and officials of the Social Welfare Department also attended the meeting.
