Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Saturday emphasised the need for judicious and optimal use of infrastructure and human resources for effective management of Covid-19 in the State.

The Chief Secretary, who held a video conference with District Collectors, Additional Collectors, DM&HOs, District Hospital and Area Hospital Superintendents and other officials on steps to be taken to control Covid-19, also stressed on the need to synergise efforts of all the departments to combat the pandemic.

He directed the Health officials to have a triage in every hospital to effectively provide treatment based on patient condition. He also directed them to make optimum use of Corona Care Centers (CCC) and patients with mild symptoms can be treated at these centres. He said that no patient should be denied treatment when they come to hospital.

The Chief Secretary instructed District Collectors to ensure that every deserving patient gets the right and timely treatment. He directed District Collectors to have a brief tele-Conference twice a day with DM&HOs, Hospital Superintendents, RMOs and other concerned officials to assess the situation and strengthen the services.

The District Collectors are empowered to draft personnel from other departments and also to recruit personnel on temporary basis, if necessary, he pointed out.

Somesh Kumar asked the District Collectors to ensure that sufficient medical oxygen supplies are available in all hospitals in the State. He stressed the need to judiciously utilize the oxygen which is precious at this moment and to ensure that not a single unit of oxygen is wasted. It was also emphasized that effective management of the present Covid wave was largely dependent on effective utilisation of oxygen.

The Chief Secretary directed the officials to convert, where ever necessary, available wards into Covid wards with oxygen supported beds and ICU with ventilator facility to accommodate more patients in the hospitals. He also suggested utilization of all the infrastructure and human resources available in teaching hospitals. He said the government has sanctioned Rs 20 crore to set up additional 12,000 beds with oxygen facility to augment the Covid situation in coming days.

He instructed the District Collectors to complete the task on a war-footing.
