Hyderabad: Relatives of a 54-year-old homemaker R Anjamma, a resident of Inole, Achampet, Nagarkurnool, who was declared as brain dead by attending team of doctors, have decided to donate her organs to needy patients under Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
In the early hours of February 19, Anjamma slipped from stairs and became unconscious. The family members rushed her to Yashoda Hospitals, Malakpet. The team of neuro-physicians at the hospital provided intensive care treatment to Anjamma for two days.
However, with her prognosis looking very poor, the neuro-physician team declared Anjamma as brain dead on February 21 due to a stroke that caused internal bleeding.
Following a series of counselling sessions conducted by grief counsellors, the family members including her husband R Niranjan and son R Venkaiah decided to donate her organs to needy patients under Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
The surgeons retrieved three organs including two kidneys and a liver and sent them to other transplant centres on the basis of Jeevandan organ donation guidelines. The Jeevandan authorities thanked the family members of Anjamma for deciding to donate her organs for a noble cause.
