Vijayawada: Panchayat elections were successfully held in four phases all over Andhra Pradesh, according to State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, he said elections were unanimous only for 16 percent of the seats and about 10,890 sarpanches and 47,500 ward members were elected directly.
The poll personnel and officials had worked with dedication to achieve this and over 90,000 personnel had functioned in each phase, he stated. Also, over 50,000 police personnel had discharged their duties with efficacy and over 80 percent had taken part in voting voluntarily, he added.
The SEC also said there were no instances of repoll or postponement of election due to untoward incidents and political parties as well as voters took part enthusiastically, he said. The municipal elections process would begin from March 2 in the state, he stated.
