Sangareddy: To mark the concluding ceremony of Patha Pantala Jathara (Mobile Bio-diversity Festival), the Women of Deccan Development Society (DDS) organised various traditional programmes at Machanur village in Jharasangam Mandal on Tuesday.

Several prominent personalities, who attended the meeting, have hailed the women of DDS, who have been cultivating millet crops for over the years for continuing the habit of old crops cultivation and for their role in the conservation of these crops. Several women farmers were felicitated on this occasion for their commitment to cultivating the millet crops. The women put the crop festivals such as Dasara Gatlu, Yendlukatte Punnami and Sunyam Panduga on display.


On the final day of the fortnight-long festival, the decorated bullock carts, which were taken in procession through many villages of Zaheerabad division, were brought to Machanur where the farmers were educated on the need for millets’ cultivation. The women farmers have also put various food products such as sweets, hot snacks made with millets and other old crops on display.

DDS Co-director C Jayashri, District Women and Child Welfare Department Officer A Padmavathi, Assistant Professor at Agriculture University Dr Janaki Srinath, Agriculture officer D Vydyanath, and others were present.
