Yadadri-Bhongir: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appreciated writer Dr Kurella Vitalacharya for setting up a library with two lakh books in his house at Yellanki village of Ramannapet mandal in Yadadri-Bhongir district.
Speaking during his Mann Ki Baat programme, Modi said: “Our nation is endowed with many extraordinary talents whose creativity inspired others to do something. One such person is Dr Kurella Vitalacharyaji from Telangana. He is 84 years old. Vitalacharyaji is an example that age doesn’t matter when it comes to fulfilling your dreams. Vitalacharyaji’s wish since childhood was to open a big library that time, when the country was not independent,” he said.
Stating that Vitalacharya’s dream remained unfulfilled due to circumstances then, with time, he became a lecturer and thoroughly studied Telugu literature and created many compositions. “About six or seven years ago, he started the library with his collection of books and spent his entire life’s savings on it. Slowly and steadily, people started joining and contributing to it. Located in Ramannapet Mandal of Yadadri-Bhongir district, this library today has about two lakhs books. Vitalacharya Ji wishes that no one faces the same hardship that he faced to seek education. He is very pleased today to see students in large numbers getting benefitted through his library. Inspired by his work, people of many other villages are building libraries,” the Prime Minister said.
Vitalacharya’s library is a referral library for research scholars in Telugu literature to study books, analyze and prepare the thesis. Students from Osmania University, Telugu University and other colleges come to the tiny village, which has a population of 5,000, to visit the library for research purposes.
Reacting to Modi’s mention of his library, Vitalacharya said he was very happy about his library finding a mention in the Mann ki Baat programme.
