Power employees protest DISCOMs’ unilateral transfer policy in Hyderabad
TGPEJAC staged a protest in Hyderabad against DISCOMs for issuing transfer policy guidelines without consulting unions. The unions argued that transfers should be scheduled after the academic year and summer action plan to avoid disruption.
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Power Employees Joint Action Committee (TGPEJAC) is up in arms against the DISCOMsfor issuing transfer policy guidelines without considering appeals from unions and associations seeking postponement of the exercise.
TGPEJAC members staged a protest at the Mint Compound here on Sunday, accusing the managements of ignoring repeated representations.
The TGPEJAC has been urging the DISCOMs to issue transfer orders in May or June, citing the completion of the academic year for employees’ children. The unions have also pointed out that the preparation and implementation of the summer action plan, aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply to consumers, would be affected if large-scale transfers were carried out earlier.
However, the appeals were not considered by the DISCOMs managements, which are reportedly inclined to issue general transfers in January 2026.
The unions and associations urged the managements to hold discussions on the transfer guidelines and restrict transfers to employees who had completed three years of service in their present posts. The TGPEJAC also sought issuance of in-charge promotions to Operation and Maintenance staff in the TGSPDCL and grade upgradation for all artisans working in power utilities.
Despite these representations, the managements did not hold any consultations with unions or associations and issued the transfer policy unilaterally, they alleged. As per the guidelines, all employees who have completed two years of service in a particular post are liable for transfer within the DISCOMs.
Later in the day, TGPEJAC leaders met Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. He assured them that the transfer policy would be decided after due discussions with the unions and associations, union leaders said in a press release.
