New Delhi: The team of “Ramayana” celebrated the beginning of their journey of presenting the film to the world with a special “Pratham Sankalp” event here that was attended by its star-studded cast and unveiling of the trailer ahead of its official launch on July 24.
Actor Ranbir Kapoor (Ram), Sai Pallavi (Sita), Yash (Ravan), Sunny Deol (Hanuman), Ravi Dubey (Lakshman), Arun Govil (Dashrath) and other cast members attended the grand event here along with producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari.
At the event hosted by poet Kumar Vishwash, Malhotra said the movie was the realisation of a long standing dream of bringing an Indian story to the world. He said over 10,000 people worked on the film from different parts of the world to make the film a reality.
Ranbir, who attended the event in dark glasses, apologised and said he wore them because of an eye infection.
In his speech, the actor paid tribute to his on-screen father, Govil, for establishing an ideal with his portrayal in Ramanand Sagar’s version of the epic.
“You carried forward this responsibility for years with such beauty, honesty and dignity. For an actor like me and for all who watched Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana, you gave them trust and inspiration. The way you internalised Ram in you, if I manage to do even a little, then my hard work is done. Since childhood, I have kept in my heart lord Ram’s blessings, his teachings and your face. We love you like our own. Thank you for everything sir,” the actor said.
Pallavi said playing Sita was a role of a lifetime.
“It is not easy to play a goddess, you need a team that’s putting their heart and soul in making it the best version because it becomes history, something that we can go back into the future and see,” she said, adding that she prayed to the goddess to guide her in her portrayal.
Actor Shobana stars as Kaikeyi; Ajinkya Deo as Sage Vishwamitra; Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra; Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha; and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana in the movie.
At the event, actors Yash and Sunny Deol introduced their characters to the audiences for the first time.
The south star, who is also a producer on the project, charmed the audiences by trying to speak in broken Hindi before switching to English. He praised Malhotra for his vision for the movie.
“I think this is India’s dream. Everybody in this film has come with one one vision, one conviction — to put our story to the global platform. So, all of us are here, keeping all our interests aside. We have only one interest to tell Prabhu Shriram’s story to the global audience, and also to celebrate him in our country,” Yash said.
The “KGF” star thanked Tiwari for his guidance and said fans will be surprised with the commitment with which Ranbir has surrendered to the role. He also praised other cast members in his speech.
Deol said he had just begun working on the movie but he is happy to have got the chance to portray a loved character like Hanuman.
“‘Ramayan’ is the biggest for us Indians. I want to thank Waheguru that I got the chance to play Hanuman ji’s character. I will try my best that I do it properly because it is not easy to play this character, but I will have a lot of fun because he is naughty, innocent and powerful and very dear to you all and a devotee of Lord Ram… We need all your blessings because Namit has taken on this huge project. I am sure all of India will watch this,” the actor said.
Malhotra said, “Having spent much of my life working across the global film industry, I have always believed that India’s greatest stories deserve to be experienced on the world’s biggest stage. Today, we finally have the artists, the technology, the craftsmanship and the collective ambition to present this extraordinary cultural legacy to audiences everywhere with the authenticity, scale and cinematic excellence it deserves.”
Tiwari said Ramayana was one of the greatest stories ever told, not because of its scale, but because of the timeless values it represents.
“As a filmmaker, I never felt the responsibility to make it universal, it already is. My responsibility has been to approach it with complete honesty, authenticity and reverence.”
Presented by Prime Focus Studios, in association with DNEG, the eight-time Academy Award-winning visual effects and animation studio, and Monster Mind Creations, “Ramayana” has music by Academy Award-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
On 24 July 2026, the official trailer premieres globally, ahead of the worldwide theatrical release of “Ramayana: Part One” during Diwali 2026.
The ‘Pratham Sankalp’ event was attended by Karan Johar, Baba Ramdev, Vivek Oberoi and who’s who of Delhi. It began with a bhajan performance by Ricky Ram Sharma, who is also part of the film’s music.
