Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao lashed out at the Congress government, calling the public outrage during the ongoing gram sabhas to identify beneficiaries for various government schemes as a result of its failed governance. He slammed the government for mishandling welfare schemes and pushing citizens into despair.

Expressing anguish over the suicide attempt by former sarpanch Nagaraju in Jagtial district and Dalit farmer Kumari Nagaiah in Mulugu district, Harish Rao said both the incidents were triggered by flawed beneficiary selection in gram sabhas. He held the Congress government responsible for both the incidents, terming them tragic and unacceptable.

“The Congress government’s unplanned approach and politically motivated selection process, in its haste to release the beneficiaries’ list ahead of the local body elections, are causing confusion and distress among the people,” he said.

The BRS legislator criticised Congress leaders for openly prioritising party workers in welfare schemes like Indiramma Housing and Rythu Bharosa, rather than the deserving ones. He questioned the point of holding gram sabhas if their beneficiary lists are not final, accusing the government of using these meetings for political optics.

“Despite promises to implement six guarantees in 100 days, the Congress has resorted to deceit. Their governance has become a circus of applications with no results,” he remarked. He urged the government to leverage technology for smooth and transparent application process, instead of forcing citizens to waste time in chaotic gram sabhas.

Further, Harish Rao appealed to the citizens not to resort to extreme measures. “Suicides are not the solution. Let us stand united and fight for our rights. The BRS will stand by the people of Telangana to ensure welfare schemes reach the deserving,” he affirmed.
