Hyderabad: Forty years may not be long in an institution’s history, but it offers an important opportunity to reflect and realign its course. Quadrigenia 2025 marks this milestone for the Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS), Hyderabad, a premier institution dedicated to medical education and healthcare, particularly for marginalized communities.
DCMS was founded in 1984 through the efforts of the late Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, who foresaw the need for a minority-focused medical institution and established the Darus Salam Educational Trust in 1974. His determination ensured that aspiring doctors from underserved communities had the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
Despite political and bureaucratic hurdles, Owaisi secured permission for DCMS on August 7, 1984. The short lived Bhaskar Rao government granted the approval followed by recognition from the Medical Council of India. Initially affiliated with the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, the medical college is now under the KNR University of Health Sciences, Warangal.
Since its inauguration on January 26, 1985, by Mohammad Al Hussaini, Sajjada Nasheen of the Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah, DCMS has been at the forefront of medical education. Further expansion came in 1996 with the inauguration of the Owaisi Hospital Research Centre, and the presence of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar and Prince Muffakham Jah Bahadur, underscored its significance.
With over 6,000 doctors contributing to healthcare globally, DCMS continues to nurture medical professionals and annually, 150 students are admitted. The institution diversified into allied fields by establishing the Deccan School of Hospital Management, Owaisi School and College of Nursing (B.Sc and M.Sc), Deccan School of Pharmacy, and Deccan College of Physiotherapy.
Quadrigenia 2025, the four-day program, includes academic sessions, cultural performances, sports, talent showcases, and medical charades. A mushaira and ghazal evening will honor Hyderabad’s literary heritage. A key highlight will be an interaction between Akbaruddin Owaisi, Managing Director of DCMS, and alumni doctors, discussing the institution’s progress and future aspirations.
The event will conclude with an address by AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and a soulful qawwali performance will bring the celebrations to a close.
