Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Residents of 14 villages in Telangana, which are sought to be merged with Maharashtra, have expressed their disinterest in the merger as announced by Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Haridas Motiram, a villager of Anthapur in Kerameri mandal, declared that they were not interested in being merged with Maharashtra.

“We don’t want to reside in Maharashtra. We are from Telangana and would like to stay here. We don’t get anything from Maharashtra except for rations. All that we need is to continue to reside in this State,” he reiterated.

The residents urged the Kumram Bheem Asifabad district Collector to take steps to ensure that their villages would not be included in Maharashtra. He wanted elected representatives of this region to pass a resolution against Maharashtra’s move and help them continue to be in Telangana.

The residents reportedly opposed Maharashtra’s decision to merge the villages with the State.

Claiming that the Maharashtra government has revenue records, Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the 14 villagers were voters from the State and would be merged with Chandrapur district in Maharashtra, according to reports.

These 14 villages located in Rajura and Jiwati taluks share borders with Adilabad in Telangana with Maharashtra. A high-level meeting was chaired by Bawankule in Mumbai, and representatives of 14 villages and Chandrapur district officials also attended the meeting, the reports said.
