Nalgonda: CPI(M) Telangana State Secretary John Wesley demanded on Friday that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy provide immediate clarity on whether discussions regarding Andhra Pradesh’s controversial Banakacherla project took place during a his recent meeting with union Minister CR Patil and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Addressing a news conference here during the CPI(M) district committee meeting on Friday, Wesley urged the Chief Minister to address public concerns and end the confusion surrounding the issue.

Wesley’s remarks came in response to Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu’s claim that discussions on the Banakacharla project, aimed at diverting Godavari waters, occurred during the meeting, with certain decisions being made. However, Revanth Reddy has denied that the project was discussed.

Wesley emphasised that the Chief Minister has a responsibility to clarify the matter for the people of Telangana.

He further demanded that the government to convene an all-party meeting and consult experts to resolve the issue transparently.

If discussions on Banakacharla did occur, Wesley insisted that decisions regarding Telangana’s share of flood and surplus waters must be finalised in the Apex Council, which has not yet convened.

He accused the BJP-led Central government of taking advantage of the inter-state disputes for political gain.
