Karimnagar: Senior BRS leader and opposition leader in the Legislative Council S Madhusudhana Chary accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of failing to act on the promise of securing 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) by not introducing a Bill in Parliament or pursuing its inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting for the BC Garjana event scheduled in Karimnagar on August 8, Chary alleged that despite visiting Delhi multiple times, the Chief Minister had not taken any initiative on the reservation issue. He cited the example of late Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa, who had camped in Delhi to safeguard state interests.
He reminded the media that the Congress had promised before the elections to provide 42% BC reservation, set up a BC Sub-Plan, and allocate Rs 1 lakh crore over five years for BC welfare.
“All these promises were forgotten after the party came to power,” Chary said, adding that even the Congress high command was unaware of the developments in Telangana and had fallen under Revanth Reddy’s influence.
Chary also pointed out that the BC caste survey undertaken by the state government was initiated only due to pressure from BC organizations. He claimed the survey was flawed but said BRS extended its support for the community’s welfare.
To build awareness about the alleged injustice done to the BC community, BRS will hold the BC Garjana in Karimnagar, a district the party considers auspicious for launching major initiatives.
