Hyderabad: BRS leader and MLA G Jagadish Reddy on Saturday called for a student movement to counter what he termed as a “betrayal” by “traitors” ruling Telangana. He accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of conspiring against Telangana’s interests.
Addressing the BRSV State conference here, Jagadish Reddy voiced concern that Telangana’s water rights and cultural heritage were under threat. He alleged that Revanth Reddy, whom he described as a “puppet” of Naidu and Modi, was complicit in diverting Telangana’s Godavari waters to Andhra Pradesh, jeopardising the State’s agriculture and economy.
“The Godavari water issue is not political; it is about our livelihood,” he declared, urging students to rise against the looting of Telangana’s resources. He criticised the handling of the Banakacherla project, claiming it harmed Telangana’s interests, and called for student activism to safeguard water rights.
Drawing parallels with historical movements, he cited Indira Gandhi’s ouster, Bangladesh’s liberation, and the fall of monarchies, stating that student protests have historically secured people’s rights. “If students take to the streets, no one can stop them,” he said.
Jagadish Reddy urged people, especially youth, to fearlessly confront police actions and arrests, asserting that students far outnumber police personnel. “Swarm like ants to police stations if faced with unjust arrests,” he said.
He further accused Revanth Reddy of being responsible for the deaths of 100 Gurukul school students due to negligence, claiming such failures would invite severe punishment in other countries.
