Tadepalli: Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy said that as many as 10.45 lakh families in the State who were victims of AgriGold scam, were paid Rs 905.57 crore so far.
Releasing the second phase payment of compensation to AgriGold depositors at his camp office here on Tuesday, he said that his government had kept its pre-election promise by releasing funds. In the second phase, Rs 666.84 crore cash was credited to the accounts of seven lakh persons who had all deposited below Rs 20,000. Never before in the country did any government come to the rescue of victims of a private organisation and the Andhra Pradesh government had taken the responsibility of coming to the aid of the poor, he stated.
Jagan alleged that the AgriGold scam was meant to benefit persons in the previous government which had colluded with the AgriGold management. He noted that many small traders had lost heavily in the scam and the entire money in AgriGold organisation belonged only to those who toiled hard to eke out a livelihood. The previous government dodged the matter for five long years and did not pay even a single paisa, he pointed out.
The Chief Minister said that as early as November 2019, the government released Rs 238.73 crore to 3.4 lakh depositors in the first phase. Payments to the remaining depositors would be made once the AgriGold issue is settled, he stated.
