Kothagudem: Blocking of road by sand trucks denying passage to an ambulance has allegedly led to death of a youth in Manuguru mandal in the district on Monday.
According to sources, the youth Vamshi (35) of Dammakkapet village in the mandal consumed pesticide in a suicide attempt. While his family shifted him to hospital they were forced to carry him on their shoulders as sand trucks parked for kilometres on either side of the road between Sambaigudem and Ramanujavaram on Manuguru-Pinapaka stretch obstructed the ambulance to reach the village.
By the time Vamshi was taken to the hospital, he lost his life. Family members expressed deep anguish, stating that Vamshi died because the sand trucks had blocked the road and they could not take him to the hospital on time. They demanded the officials to take action against the sand mafia that was posing a threat to the lives of the villagers.
It might be recalled that the residents in Manuguru, Pinapaka, Rajupet and others have staged protests several times seeking the authorities to address the problem of pollution and traffic jams caused on the roads by sand trucks.
