Sangareddy: Luck smiled on BJP leader Kondapuram Jagan, who lost the municipal elections three consecutive times by slender margins of less than 10 votes.
Jagan, a key Dalit leader of the saffron party in Sangareddy, had contested as councillor in 2005 for the first time but lost the election by nine votes. Since no election was conducted during the Telangana movement, there was nearly a nine-year gap before the next municipal elections were held in the State. Jagan reduced his margin of defeat by three votes to six votes in 2014 in his second attempt. The unlucky contestant also threw his hat in the ring in the 2020 elections and lost again by four votes, much to the shock of everyone who supported him.
However, luck smiled on him this time as Jagan, who contested from the 3rd ward of Sangareddy municipality, emerged victorious with a majority of 526 votes, defeating his nearest rival and Congress candidate Kumar.
Jagan said he had learnt many things from his earlier defeats and would savour this victory for the next five years.
