Hyderabad: Pledging his support to the ongoing agitation against farm laws in the northern States, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao demanded that the Centre withdraw these laws.
Elaborating on how Telangana supported the Centre during the election of the President and the Vice-President and in getting various Bills passed in the Parliament, he pointed out that when Centre can purchase entire paddy produced in Punjab, why it could not do so in Telangana.
Targeting the State BJP president for his call to farmers to go for paddy cultivation, he said Sanjay only had an eye on the votes, but his irresponsible statements would spell doom for farmers. He cautioned farmers not to fall prey to such cheap politics. For last seven years, the TRS government was striving for agriculture sector’s growth and increasing farmers’ incomes apart from improving their welfare. The State government was supplying free quality power supply to agriculture sector, water to lakhs of acres by grounding irrigation projects and quality seed and fertilizer to farmers.
The Chief Minister explained that he had ignored the State BJP leaders statements targeting him, but he could not keep quiet when farmers interests were involved. “Let the State BJP president get an order from the Centre to buy the rice.” “When I drew the attention of the Union Agriculture Minister to Sanjay’s statement asking farmers to go for paddy cultivation, the Union Minister was surprised and said how could the BJP leader say that.
The BJP leaders including Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy did nothing for the development of the State.
The farmers in the State should consult agriculture officers in their villages before opting for the crop in Yasangi. The officers already started conducting meeting with the villagers. Farmers can go for alternative crops like sesame and greengram, which are more profitable than paddy.
