Telangana: The Telangana government decided to pass all students who failed in the intermediate first year (11th class) examinations.
Education Minister P SabithaIndra Reddy announced that keeping in view the students’ future, the government decided to pass all the failed students with minimum passing marks. The decision will benefit over 2.35 lakh students who had failed in the exams, the results of which were declared last week.
The decision came amid the continuing protests by student groups and opposition parties over the alleged irregularities in evaluation of answer sheets and suicide of at least six students over their failure in the examination.
A total of 4,59,242 students had appeared in the exams and only 49 per cent (2,24,012) students passed the exams.
Andhra Pradesh: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice NV Ramana made his first visit to his birthplace in Veerulapadu Mandal in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh as a CJI.
The CJI was first received by Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma and other dignitaries at Garikapadu check post, the border point between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He travelled by road from Hyderabad to his native village. His friends, family members and villagers welcomed him in a traditional manner on the occasion.
The CJI rode the Bullock Cart in the village for some time and visited his relative’s house in the village on the cart. He then participated in a public meeting organised by the villagers, who showed love and affection towards him. The villagers felicitated him and they also presented a Silver Plough.
Kerala: The Southern Naval Command (SNC) displayed the country’s maritime prowess and operations before President Ram NathKovind, who is also the supreme commander of the Indian armed forces, as part of the naval operation demonstration held in Kochi.
Kovind was accorded a guard of honour after which the Navy band performed before the gathering, comprising the President, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, State Industries Minister P Rajeeve, Southern Naval Command Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral M A Hampiholi, among others.
The demonstration held in the Ernakulam Channel commenced with Marine Commandos carrying out simulated combat beach reconnaissance and assault, using inflatable watercraft, Gemini, followed by delivering the programme brochure to the President.
Tamil Nadu: Workers digging a pit in a paddy field 100 metres away from the proposed museum at the Keeladi excavation site were in for a surprise when the top of an ancient ring well surfaced in the area.
The pit was being dug to drain out water from the paddy field of Balakrishnan, a farmer of the area, when the workers spotted the top of the ringed well. An official with the excavation site said workers spotted the first ring two feet below the ground level.
Tamil Nadu State Archeology department directed the excavation site officials to visit the location. Officials found that only one ring was available as water from the pit had filled it. They said that other ring wells which were discovered during earlier excavations were also of one-metre diameter.
Assam: A day ahead of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister AtalBihari Vajpayee, Assam Chief Minister HimantaBiswaSarma inaugurated a park ‘AtalUdyan’ in Guwahati and dedicated it in the memory of the leader.
Set up by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), the park includes a 250-seater amphitheatre, meditation hall, open-air gym, children playing equipment, mural artwork among other things covering an area of around 4.95 acres of land.
The Chief Minister also distributed cheques for financial assistance to 15 park management committees of Guwahati. Since 2014, the Good Governance Day has been celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of late PM AtalBihari Vajpayee.
