Sangareddy: Singur project constructed across river Manjeera at Singur in Pulkal mandal is nearing Full Reservoir Level since the project has been receiving moderate inflows from upstream. Singur and Nizam Sagar, also built on Manjeera in Kamareddy district, are the only two reservoirs that had not filled to the brim during the monsoon season this year. All the projects in Krishna and Godavari basins were filled to the brim in the State since both the river’s catchment areas witnessed copious rains.
Currently, Singur project is holding 25.3TMCft of water against its gross storage capacity of 29.91 TMCft. The project has been getting 14,704 cusecs of water since Sunday morning. The project got a little over 12 TMCft of cumulative inflows this year, but had over 19TMCft of water from last year.
With the catchment area of Manjeera witnessing heavy rains in the last couple of days, irrigation authorities were expecting the project to be filled in a week’s time. Meanwhile, the Manjeera dam, located downstream of Singur project near Sangareddy district, has been filled to the brim with local inflows as Sangareddy district received heavy rain in the last 24 hours. The irrigation authorities have warned people living downstream that water would be released anytime. The project is currently holding 1.2TMCft of water against its gross storage capacity of 1.5TMCft.
Meanwhile, the Ghanpur anicut downstream of Manjeera dam in Pappannapet Mandal of Medak district has been overflowing continuously with local inflows.
The water storage in Nizam Sagar project now was 11.5TMCft against its gross storage capacity of 17.8TMCft, with inflows at 2,500 cusecs. Since more inflows are expected from upstream, the project is also expected to attain FRL in a week.
