Students to be part of mess management committees in Telangana
Mess committees comprising students should be formed in schools, allowing them to oversee all activities from cooking to serving. This way, students can address any lapses in ensuring food quality, he explained. "In the future, I will visit residential schools, inspect the food quality, and interact with the students. Anyone found being irresponsible will face strict punishment," he added.

Hyderabad: Faced with fierce criticism from all quarters over recurring food poisoning cases in government schools and hostels, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to involve students in Mess Management Committees.
Mess committees involving students should be constituted in schools. If students monitor all the activities right from cooking to serving, they would correct any lapses in ensuring quality, he said.
“In future, I will visit residential schools, check the quality of food, and interact with students. If anyone is found irresponsible, they will be punished severely,” he said.
It may be recalled that the State government had already decided to constitute task forces and institution level food safety committees to ensure food safety in schools, welfare hostels and others.
“Apart from local officials, District Collectors and SPs will visit government schools once in a week. They will have lunch with the students and ensure quality food is served at the schools,” he said.
Stressing that the amount being spent on welfare schools and colleges should not be seen as expenditure but should be considered as an investment on future generations, the Chief Minister also wanted government teachers to self-introspect why multi-talented students were not being produced from government schools.
Do private teachers have more eligibility than government teachers, or were their salaries higher than those in government schools, he asked after launching the common diet programme at the Telangana Social Welfare Residential School, Chilkur here on Saturday.
He also wanted teachers to plan facilities like toilets, books, uniforms and others required for the next academic year well in advance, stating that diet, cosmetic and other funds required for school maintenance would be released before the 10th of every month
