Surplus water discharged from Kaddam project as inflows rise
Surplus water from the Kaddam Narayana Reddy project was released downstream after heavy rains in upstream areas led to steady inflows. Officials lifted a crest gate to discharge excess water and urged locals to avoid downstream areas for safety.

Nirmal: Surplus water was released downstream from the Kaddam Narayana Reddy project in Kaddampeddur mandal on Sunday, following steady inflows due to heavy rains in upstream areas.
Officials lifted one of the crest gates to discharge the excess water. The project received inflows of 4,697 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 5,464 cusecs. The water level touched 694 feet against the full reservoir level of 700 feet.
Authorities cautioned shepherds and farmers to stay away from the downstream areas during the discharge. Fishermen were advised not to enter the river to catch fish during the high flow. Swarna and other minor irrigation projects in the region also received significant inflows, raising hopes among farmers.
Meanwhile, the average rainfall recorded in Nirmal district was 17.9 mm. Cumulatively, the district received 310 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 27, compared to the normal 426 mm for the same period, reflecting a deficit of 25 percent.
