The road accident took place when one of the tyres of the bus burst, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle and hitting the motorbike.

A total of 57 people were involved in the crash, which occurred at Grand Canyon West just before 10 am, Hualapai Emergency Operations said in a news release, as per CNN.

The injured have been rushed to a state-run hospital, the official said.

According to the police, the accident occurred on Sunday night and victims -- P. Nagarathinam, Muthamil Selvan, G. Manikandan, R. Ayyappan, S. Deenadhayalan -- were all occupants of the car.

"There were 40 to 45 people in the bus, out of which, seven people have died while more than 25 people are injured, the rescue is still underway," said Raigad Superintendent of Police

“So far, I have only seen double-deckers in photographs. I badly want to experience it." says Pradeep, a student.

The accident occurred on a national highway near Vesma village when the bus was going towards Valsad, while the SUV was coming from the opposite direction, Navsari Superintendent of Police (SP) Rushikesh Upadhyay said.

The incident occurred at around 2 am when the bus was on its way to Chandigarh from Manali, they said.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, on the occasion, said that the status of 3,000 buses can be tracked on a real-time basis.

The decision comes as part of the measures to provide better facilities to passengers and safe bus travel for women at night.

The incident took place when the bus was on its way to Tenali in Andhra Pradesh from Hyderabad. About 30 persons were traveling in the bus at the time of the accident.

Two women, identified as Nandani Fazal Khan (20) and Rupali Asrathe (36), died in the mishap.
