Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren was placed under house arrest in Ranchi amid tribal protests against land acquisition for a state-run health institute. His son Babulal Soren and supporters were also detained. Soren termed the action undemocratic and politically motivated.
The Jharkhand CM has directed the personnel department to prepare a draft (SoP for conducting the survey) and place it before the cabinet for approval, he said.
The order prohibits the gathering of five or more individuals, except for government officials, employees engaged in official duties, and participants in judicial and religious activities.
Making 1932 the cut-off year for the domicile policy will help descendants of those, who were living in present-day Jharkhand before that year, avail benefits in various schemes and get government jobs.
Jharkhand Transport Minister Champai Soren said that he has the support of 47 legislators, enough to form a government in the 81 member Assembly state.
